Question Time

    Every weekend I will have a blog post where I ask and answer questions.  It is a good way for readers to get to know more about me and also helps me to get feedback on a number of questions. Summer is a time for ice cream. If you like ice cream, what is your favourite flavour?   Grapenut is definitely No.1 for me.
    As usual I am participating in Friendship Friday hosted by Create With Joy where this week the theme is Vacation. 1. What are your plans for vacation this summer?  I do not have any special vacation plans but I will take a trip to one of Jamaica's tourist resorts, Ocho Rios, from time to time. I went there today but it was not a sporting trip. 2. How often do you take a vacation from your blog?  I have not taken a real vacation from my blog since I started back in March 2011. However Hurricane Sandy sent me on a vacation last year as I had no electricity for some weeks.

Bird Figurine Series - # 44

         I will always remember how fascinated Janine and I were when we received this unusual candy dish featuring 6 ducks.  Since that day it has taken pride of place in our bookshelf.   We also decided to keep it candy free!:)

Melon Time - Creative Monday Blog Hop

        Summer is truly here and one way to cool down is to have some melon. Question Time

Are you able to converse with a stranger?  Over the years this was never difficult for my twin and me. I can talk to a stranger as if I knew him/her for ages.

When you think of humorous moments in your life, what comes to mind?  The many times that my identical twin and I had persons totally confused as to who was who.3.          Janine and I have always been fascinated  by the pink feathers of flamingos. We have never seen them in real life but luckily have had these 2 flamingo figurines for many years.

Father's Day Tribute - Creative Monday Blog Hop

        In many countries, Sunday, June 16, 2013 is celebrated as Father's Day.  I wish all fathers a Happy Father's Day. If your father is no longer alive as is the case with my father I hope you have many wonderful memories to hold on to.  Since I started this blog I have shared posts about my father who died when I was only 13 years old. I will always remember him as a kind, jovial and loving father. I especially treasure the values and attitudes that he instilled in his children. He always thought of others and died serving in his role as an elected Parish Councillor in my parish, St. Mary. Jamaica.

    As I reminisce about the years that I had with my father, Harold Haughton-James, these words best describe him.

Bird Figurine Series - # 42

  
  Over the years Janine and I have gotten several items that carried a bird figure. In other words they were not just figurines.  Well, guess what was under the base of this bird?!  It is not there anymore and of course would not be used by us as we could not have this cute chicken out of our collection. Now for the answer as to what this really was - a bird pencil sharpener!

Cheddar Mac & Bacon Casserole - Creative Monday Blog Hop

      I love macaroni and cheese and like to try it with different ingredients.  In this casserole I included bacon.  Persons who do not eat bacon can use another ingredient.

Ingredients
1. 1 pkg of Kraft Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese Dinner Original Cheddar Cheese Sauce
2. Pieces of  chopped bacon
3. 1/2 cup of milk
4. 2 Tablespoons of Tomato Sauce
5. Hot Pepper Sauce (Optional)
6. Black Pepper
7. 1  chopped onion
8. 1/2 cup of butter

Method
1. Boil 8 cups of water.  Stir in macaroni.
2. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes or to desired tenderness, stirring occasionally. Drain.  Do not rinse. Return to pan.
3. Squeeze cheese sauce over hot macaroni. Stir until blended.
4. Add butter, onion, tomato ketchup, blackpepper and hot pepper sauce.
5. Spoon into a baking dish.  
6. Decorate with bacon.
7. Bake for 45 minutes.

Question Time

    Every weekend I will have a blog post where I ask and answer questions.  It is a good way for readers to get to know more about me and also helps me to get feedback on a number of questions.  Can you play an instrument?  If not, given the chance what instrument would you like to play?  My twin and I played the recorder in school.  Howerver  I do not remember a thing now. We did piano lessons at Prepartory School but not for long. Given the chance to play an instrument I would probably take piano lessons again and even try the guitar.
   As usual I am participating in Friendship Friday hosted by Create With Joy where this week the theme is Games. What are your favourite board games?  Snakes and Ladders, Luddo, Draughts, Race Through Space etc. My twin and I used to play these games a lot.  What are your favourite games systems/games (Wii, Xbox, Playstation etc.?  Strangely enough I have not played any of these games yet.  What other types of game-like activities do you do for fun? I used to play a game on my phone called Snake Xenzia. However I have not played it recently.

Bird Figurine Series - # 41

         Janine and I grew up on a farm but in our time there were no ducks around. It was interesting to learn from my mom that before we were born they had ducks on the farm.  I have not seen many  over the years but I am happy that this cute figurine of a mother duck with her ducklings is a part of our collection.

Delicious Sugar Loaf Pineapple - Creative Monday Blog Hop

    On my tropical island it is always great to have my favourite fruit as the days get hot.  For some time I have only been enjoying pineapple slices sold in tins. Come to think of it, I can't recall eating home grown pineapple in years!  I was therefore thrilled to eat some slices of my favourite species,Sugar loaf, recently. 

       When the pineapple was real ripe we peeled it and then cut it in slices.  After that it was placed in the refrigerator.

      I am not able to cut it in the fancy designs that I have seen over the years. However it was very sweet and my family enjoyed it.  We certainly won't wait long to eat another one!
