Bird Figurine Series (Valentine's Day) - # 25

February 14 is celebrated as Valentine's Day around the world. It has become more popular with each passing year in Jamaica. Of course while some persons celebrate in a big way there are others who consider it to be just another day. If one has reason to celebrate by all means have a great time. I thought it only fitting that this week I feature bird figurines that give a message of love with a heart on them. I also love the message on one of them "Love finds a home in the heart of a friend." Happy Valentine's Day!

Gizzadas - Creative Monday Linky

I am from a tropical island and many coconut trees can be found here. I love the flavour of coconut and from time to time buy food items that contain it. A few days ago I ate some Gizzadas, a Jamaican coconut snack. This certainly brought back memories of the days when Janine and I would enjoy some on a Friday evening. Question Time

Every weekend I will have a blog post where I ask and answer questions. It is a good way for readers to get to know more about me and also help me to get feedback on a number of questions. Today I answer Question 3 asked by Jamie from Love Bakes Good Cakes who passed on the Liebster award to me. Favourite vacation place? My homeland Jamaica. I have never travelled abroad but my favourite place to visit here is the popular tourist resort of Ocho Rios.

Bird Figurine Series - # 24

While my twin and I have a collection of a variety of bird figurines there are some persons who only collect owls. Nevertheless there are a quite a number of owls in our collection. Here are some of them.

Sweet & Sour Pork - Creative Monday Linky

I love Chinese food and one of my favourite dishes is sweet and sour pork. My twin also liked this dish. Below is the recipe.

Ingredients

2lb. of pork

2 tsps. salt

2 cloves garlic

1 tsp. pepper

1 cup flour
1 green pepper, cut in thin strips

Cooking oil for frying

Method

1. Cut the pork into strips about 1-inch thick and 2 inches long.

2. Season with salt, pepper and garlic.

3. Coat pork in flour and deep-fry until cooked

SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE

1 1/2 cups of water

2/3 cup of vinegar

1 1/2 cups of sugar

1/2 cup Tomato Ketchup

4 slices of ginger

1/4 cup sliced carrots

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1/2 cup pineapple chunks/slices, cut in small pieces

Method

1. Combine water, vinegar, sugar and tomato ketchup in a saucepan.

2. Add ginger and carrot slices and bring to a boil. Cook slowly for 5 minutes.

3. Dissolve cornstarch in a small amount of water and add to the sauce. Stir until it thickens.

4. Add pineapple chunks/pieces. Pour sauce over pork and serve.

Question Time & A Blog Award

Every weekend I will have a blog post where I ask and answer questions. It is a good way for readers to get to know more about me and also help me to get feedback on a number of questions. I have received the Liebster Award from Jamie who has a wonderful blog titled Love Bakes Good Cakes so for 10 weeks I will be answering the questions she asked. Thanks a lot Jamie. I have gotten this award more than once and passed it on to other bloggers. I love the new design of the award.

The first question she asked was - Why did you start blogging? Last week I had a similar question for my Question Time Post so I will move to question No. 2. What is your favourite meal? Roast chicken with stuffing, curried mutton, rice and peas, potato salad, vegetable salad and baked ripe plantains. A special holiday meal for me.
