I must apologize for posting later than usual but I was so sick yesterday afternoon and part of last night that it is good to be feeling a bit better to post this hop today.
Pimento is being reaped on our farm and some are already dry. As soon as it is cleaned I look forward to adding it to some recipes. I love the flavour of pimento and use the dried unripe berries when cooking rice and peas, soup, escoveitched fish etc.
The pimento tree was said to be discovered in Jamaica in about 1509. Another name for pimento is allspice as its versatile flavour and smell remind one of pepper, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Allspice is a very important ingredient in the popular Jamaican jerk seasoning. Have you ever used pimento when cooking?

The only pimento I know is the ones that are stuck in green olives and goes into a martini. Don't care for pimento, but we may be talking about two different things.

Pimento and Pimiento are not even close to the same thing are they? I read Pimento and thought of green olives, but then I read your description and I'm thinking they're not the same. Plus I think the olives are Spanish origin.
To answer the question, nope, I have not cooked with it, but I would like to give it a try.

I remember growing up and seeing a can of "allspice". Being literal, I thought it had a little bit of all the spices in that jar. :)

I am not sure if it is the same pimento that you said is put in olives and stuck into a martini Sandee. I will have to do some research on that. Enjoy your Monday.

Pimento by itself is not hot Leovi but jerk seasoning includes pepper so it is very hot! Enjoy the rest of your day.

I really enjoyed reading about the Pimento tree and how it produces a seed that is known as Allspice. Here in the states Pimento is a cherry pepper used in cheeses, olives and other foods. Thank you for sharing it on our Four Seasons Blog Hop

I found you through Ivy and Elephants. Oh, allspice is very big in baking in the UK. It's used as part of the spices in a traditional Christmas pudding, along with cinnamon, cloves, ginger and nutmeg. The scent when it's harvest must be wonderful and I'd love to know what the fresh berries are like.
