A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

BY JUDY HAUGHTON-JAMES

So often we hear the statement "A picture is worth a thousand words."  This is so true. I am  happy that from my twin sister and I were very young my mother always took pictures of us. Since Janine's death Mom and I have arranged albums with pictures of her, the both of us as well as pictures of Janine with relatives and friends.  As an earlier post showed I even came across a new album which has become her special tribute album. I have shared some of these pictures here and plan to share even more in the future.

Above are 3 pictures of Janine and me when we were rather young. I can't tell who is Judy and who is Janine in these pictures!:) My parents and brothers were always able to tell the difference. However now Mom and my brothers can't recall who is who in the above pictures. Anyway Janine was smaller than I was during our early years. She was always smiling so I am here thinking maybe she was the one with the smile. Nevertheless I often jokingly say to my mom "You are sure that I am not in fact Janine."

Of all our pictures as toddlers these are my favourites. Strangely enough, the one I like best is the one of us in pants. Now that is amazing, as Janine and I just never liked wearing pants over the years. As a matter of fact in our teenage years I think we only had pairs of black pants and navy blue pants and they were rarely worn.

I have hundreds of pictures of Janine and myself. Surprisingly I found the strength to choose several of our pictures to place in the photograph section on her funeral programme. I guess I was in shock or denial then.  I say this, as after her funeral I could not look into the albums for some months as the pictures made me so sad. Thank God these days I can look through our many albums and  smile when I see pictures of her with a bright smile or a mischievous grin.

Hi Caribisle,
I am trying to figure it out. In each picture I see one with a smile while the other is a bit serious.I have been able to tell the difference in more recent pictures as Janine was the one who always had a smile. So is this the case here?! LOL I continue to try to solve the mystery!

Well, as I told my friends on Facebook I think my family and I have solved the mystery at last!:) Mom found a baby book with some details about Janine and me. After a lot of discussion and analysis we have concluded that the smaller one in the pictures was Janine. Strangely enough that means that I was the one smiling. In later years Janine was always the one with the bright smile.

Hi Judy, I love the pictures! You look so much alike. I can't see and differences at all. I can't blame you or your family to not recognize which is which. LOL.

Hi Judy,
You and Janine remind me a lot of myself and seriousnuts. Our dad loved taking our pictures, and we have hundreds of old photos in our shelves. In some pictures, we can't tell who is who LOL. And I smile a lot and seriousnuts frowns a lot LOL. I'm glad your pictures can make you smile now. You have to smile, because I believe Janine wants you to smile every time you think of her.

Hi cheerfulnuts,
Always good to hear from you. When I first read the Blog posts by you and your twin, seriousnuts, I also formed the opinion that Janine was more like you and I am more like seriousnuts!:) It is really funny when we can't tell who is who in some pictures. I really treasure these pictures that I have of Janine and me. Take care and have a great week.

Judy you were really cute kids! Anyway, I figured you would have been adorable at that age. It is always nice to have reminders of your youth especially since the years appear to be flying by so fast. Weren't we only sixteen a few years ago??
By the way, nice blog.Your articles bring back good and happy memories. Janine would have been proud of you.

Hello cac107,
Thank you very much for visiting my blog and writing your comments. Time certainly flies! I am glad I have so many happy memories that I can share with others. We have been friends for a very long time and I know you could tell the difference between Janine and me. The joke is that in the baby pictures my family and I have to be playing a guessing game. I resorted to our baby books and think I have figured out who is Judy and who is Janine in some of the baby pictures. Then again maybe I am oh so wrong!:) Take care.
Judy
