Question Time

Every weekend I will have a blog post where I ask and answer questions.  It is a good way for readers to get to know more about me and also helps me to get feedback on a number of questions. How do you like to spend Independence Day in your country? First  of all Happy Independence Day to all Americans!  Independence Day is August 6th in my country, Jamaica.  It is a day filled with many events.  I especially like to watch the Grand Gala held in the capital city of Kingston. There are costumed groups, marching bands, float parades, folk groups, effigies of former leaders and cultural icons, choirs, dancers, performances by top singers and groups plus so much more. I also enjoy listening to a lot of reggae music, the national music of my homeland.
As usual I am participating in Friendship Friday hosted by Create With Joy where this week the theme is Freedom.  What does Freedom mean to you?  I regard true freedom to include - freedom of association, religion, movement, the right to vote, race tolerance and to be respected as a human being.

It depends here what you do. The people on land do whatever they want. Lots of 4th of July parades. Boaters around here go to Mandiville Tip to watch the fireworks that Hilton (Hilton Hotel's) do every year. We've done that but can't anymore as our dog Little Bit can't tolerate the noise. So we left the island this morning after 5 nights there and are now back in our slip where we'll stay until we leave for home tomorrow. Tonight it's a BBQ of baby back ribs. It's quiet here and we're happy about that.

Have a fabulous day Judy. :)

Thanks for the interesting information Sandee. I am glad you have been having a quiet but happy time. I wish I was nearby to have some of those baby back ribs. Enjoy the rest of your Independence Day and have a wonderful sail back home.

Freedom means essentially the same thing no matter where you love. The difference being whether you are lucky enough to be living in a free society or not.

The reggae music and parades at your celebration sound like they're going to be awesome!!

We watched fireworks yesterday and are bbq'ing tonight (right this second, actually). :)

I love the answer to your second question.

Happy Thursday to you!

Our National Day is on Aug 9! So close to yours :) We usually have a big parade and performace live at one of our big fields but I prefer to watch it from the comfort of home ;p much cooler and easier with a young kiddo around!

I don't do very well in crowds so I also prefer to watch from the comfort of my home Ai!

New follower via Freedom Fridays!
Here in the US we celebrate our freedom with parades, picnics and fireworks. And myself, I always remember the men and women who have fought to maintain our freedom!

Thanks for sharing, Judy. What does freedom mean to me? Wow. That's deep. You don't think about that often in a free society, do you? There is so much freedom... How blessed we are! Best wishes to you. Linda

I agree with your thoughts on freedom. We usually just have a small gathering with family, but this year we just did a low key, keep the grilling to the household members kind of day. Then went out with my mom, niece and nephew to watch the town's firework display.

Wow very deep question! When I am celebrating the 4th of July, hearing all of the patriotic music, seeing everyone in their red, white & blue & watching fireworks, I just can't help but get emotional to know that I live in one of the greatest countries. We may have our faults as a country, but to know that we have freedom to say & do as we please without living in fear is a wonderful thing.

It has been a sunny weekend here Claire! We could do with some rain.

It is great that you had an enjoyable Independence Michelle!
