OUR PRETTY BOOK OF CAROLS

Christmas carols are a part of the celebrations every year and we get to hear them on our radio stations from as early as November in Jamaica. Over the years Janine and I have enjoyed a wide variety - traditional, reggae, calypso, disco, soul, you name it.
Above is a beautiful little book of Christmas carols that Janine received as a gift many years ago. It became a special book for us and has been used among our decorations.  It has in 14 carols:
         1.Good King Wenceslas
         2.I Saw Three Ships
         3.O Little Town of Bethlehem
         4.Ding, Dong! Merrily on High
         5.O Christmas Tree
         6.The First Nowell
         7.Behold, a Lovely Flower
8.Unto us a Boy is Born
         9.While Shepherds Watched
        10.We Three Kings
11.Here We Go Up to Bethlehem
        12.The Holly and the Ivy
        13.Silent Night! Holy Night!
14.We Wish You a Merry Christmas
Some are our favourite carols but one that is missing is "Joy To The World."  What are some of your favourite Christmas carols?

I love Christmas carols! When I was a kid, they used to give out a free little book of carols at the public library at Christmastime and I'd learn to tinker with them on the piano thanks to that book.

P.S. I found your blog on Fun Friday Blog Hop. Check out mine if you get a chance!

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for your comments. I wish I had continued with piano lessons. Anyway I could play the recorder. Christmas carols are definitely a wonderful part of the season. I will definitely visit your Blog. Have a good holiday season.

Oh what fun to get out and sing to your neighbors! Our Church does this every year but it is always when my Aunt has her Christmas party so my Aunt wins ;D I love to sing any Christmas carol. I am so bummed to be recovering from bronchitis right now. I don't have enough breath to let the full volume of my soprano voice fly. Hopefully I will be mended enough by Sunday to sing :D

Hi SocialStudiesSoubrette,
I hope your will have a quick recovery from bronchitis so you can have a good time singing Christmas carols and enjoy the rest of the holiday season. Take care.

That is a beautiful book! I have been trying to sing Christmas carols to my girls and I keep having to go online and look up the words...I have serious forgetfulness of some of the words. I would love to have a book like that. Thank you so much for sharing and linking up with us :)

Years ago the local newspaper used to include an illustrated Christmas carol sheet music booklet, which I looked forward to each year. With political correctness run amok, there's barely a mention of Christmas (apart from adverts.) and the carol music sheets are long gone.

One that always moves me is, "O, Holy Night." There are so many favorites, but that is a traditional favorite.

Hi New End Studio,
I am sorry to read that you are not getting the Christmas carol booklet again. "O Holy Night" is really a lovely carol. Happy Holidays to you.

I think your book covers all of my favourites. When I was very small my dad was a shepherd, so I always liked 'While Shephers Watched'. 'Good King Wenceslas' was always special for me too; One year at school I sang the solo to 'Once in Royal David's City', my tummy flips with nerves when I hear the opening bars of that one!

Unknown said...

Hi Anji,
I am happy that this book has in several popular carols. Take care and have a good week.
