I Surprised Myself!

       
     If someone told me that I had to make a big change in my diet before I had to do it probably I would exclaim "Say what?!  I can't eat some of my favourite foods right now!"  Well, to my surprise in recent weeks I have adjusted with ultimate ease. I surprised even myself! Of course it was very important for my health but I have not been moaning and groaning about it.  These days I eat a lot more fish and one of my favourite dishes is Escoveitched Fish .  Ah, no wonder, I can still eat a favourite dish!:)

I love seeing teapots even though I do not drink tea.  My mom has several beautiful teapots.   She got this one over 65 years ago as a wedding gift.  I rarely go near it as I wouldn't want to be the one to break it!

   Here is one that she has had for over 30 years.  I like the shape and it features my favourite flowers, roses.

Well, I got a necklace with an angel pendant and it has taken on a very special meaning to me. I wear it every chance I get especially if I find myself in a situation that needs strength.  It immediately brings to mind my departed identical twin sister Janine and brother Sutcliffe. These days I see them as angels watching over me. It also brings to mind the song Angels Watching Over Me by Amy Grant that my twin and I loved so much.  Below is the pendant:

What book you never tire of reading?  I can read inspirational books and magazines over and over. My Daily Word magazine is a must read for me every day and I will read parts of it several times a day.  What song do you never tire of hearing?  Again I love anything that is inspirational and once the song lifts my spirit, I will listen to it over and over.  The song I mentioned above is yet another of those songs. What movie do you never tire of watching?  Strangely enough I am not really a movie person but I would love one that makes me laugh a lot.

       Every weekend I will have a blog post where I ask and answer questions.  It is a good way for readers to get to know more about me and also helps me to get feedback on a number of questions.  Do you mind reading a novel more than once?  I don't like reading a novel a second time but there are some inspirational and non-fiction books that I can read over and over again. Chicken Soup For The Soul's Devotional Stories For Tough Times is a book I have read twice and would have no problem reading again. Speaking of Chicken Soup for the Soul, I am so thrilled to be one of the winners of Create With Joy's awesome giveaway of Chicken Soup For The Soul's 20th anniversary edition.  The book has arrived and I can't wait to start reading it!

      As usual I am participating in Friendship Friday hosted by Create With Joy where the theme this week is Fall.  What activities do you look forward to each Fall?  Here in Jamaica we do not get to see trees changing their colours as in other countries. I like to view pictures of breathtaking Fall scenes in other countries. As the days grow shorter, are you impacted by Seasonal Affected Disorder?  Not really. I like when the days are longer though. Do you have any favourite  Fall Recipes or crafts you would like to share?  I look forward to drinking Pumpkin Soup at this time. Where crafts are concerned come late September/October my twin and I would crochet a lot - centrepieces, three peace table sets and runners.  I have not crocheted any thing in a long time.

She has been on this earth for many decades yet she has been able to rally around me during my illness. I also give thanks for the strength she has shown in facing life's blows and fighting on. It is  a good way for readers to get to know more about me and also helps me to get feedback on a number of questions.  Are you a patriotic person who knows a lot about your country's history and geography? I  am patriotic and have some Jamaican souvenirs.   Jamaica celebrated its 51st anniversary of Independence last Tuesday, August 6.  I live in St. Mary, a parish situated in the North Eastern section of the  island.  Our national symbols are as follows :- national fruit - ackee, national flower - lignum vitae, national bird -The Jamaican Streamer Tail Hummingbird and national tree - Blue Mahoe.

What's your favourite way to celebrate your birthday?  Birthdays are rather quiet for me since my twin sister's death. We used to go places, have a special lunch and of course at home there would be cake and ice-cream.  Has anyone every planned a surprise party for you?  I have never had a surprise birthday party. We would go somewhere and not have parties.  What is your favourite cake and ice-cream combination? Any cake with icing and Grapenut ice-cream. Share your favourite birthday memory?  My favourite birthday memory was when my twin and I celebrated our 21st birthday in the beautiful parish of Portland,Jamaica. We had a nice meal at the Trident Hotel and it was great to see the birds roaming around. Here are pictures of that special birthday.

I prefer to be indoors.  At times the heat is unbearable outside.  Pool side or park picnic - which invitation sounds more appealing?  Pool side!  I can't get in the pool  though as I can't swim! :) What summer activity do you dream of the most? Visiting certain areas of Jamaica and seeing nature beating the heat. Earlier this week I got a chance to be in the popular tourist resort of Ocho Rios. I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful flowers and environment. I also did some shopping.

How do you like to spend Independence Day in your country? First  of all Happy Independence Day to all Americans!  Independence Day is August 6th in my country, Jamaica.  It is a day filled with many events.  I especially like to watch the Grand Gala held in the capital city of Kingston. There are costumed groups, marching bands, float parades, folk groups, effigies of former leaders and cultural icons, choirs, dancers, performances by top singers and groups plus so much more. I also enjoy listening to a lot of reggae music, the national music of my homeland.

Do you like sending text messages? If so, are you good at SMS language or text language?  I am a phone call person and rarely send text messages. The funny thing is that I tend to write out every word when I do send a text. That means that I will write out 'you' instead of 'u.'

How many states have you stepped foot in?  I have never travelled abroad so I have never been to the U.S.A.  However if the day comes when I travel I think the U.S.A. would be the first country that I visit. I have many relatives, friends and pen pals living there.
