Favourite Christmas Designs - Creative Monday Blog Hop

     During the holiday season I love to see items with beautiful Christmas designs. As a matter of fact I use them for decorative purposes only. I can just imagine the joy felt by those talented persons as the patterns unfolded. Below are some of my favourites.

   It is great to see items with the colour red at Christmas so I like this beautiful towel that features a Christmas tree with a star on top.

      Can you imagine a cactus being decorated like a small Christmas tree?  This design is on a white towel.  The lights bring back memories of the good times my twin and I had decorating with  Christmas lights. 

       This design is featured all over a round tablecloth.  It certainly helps to create the Christmas atmosphere.

I Love Christmas Carols

        I have been listening to Christmas carols and reminiscing on all the wonderful times I had listening to a wide variety of carols  with my twin - reggae, calypso, traditional, you name it. We especially enjoyed hearing them when we were busy decorating, baking Christmas puddings and preparing special Christmas meals.  I  smile as I recall that one year we heard Christmas carols on our birthday, November 4 . We had a good laugh. The radio station really started playing Christmas carols early that year.
       In recent years I have  listened to carols on the radio stations but this time I decided to also listen to some CDs that I got but had not yet listened to.  

       The one above features top singers on two CDs singing 42 carols! I wanted to list some of my favourites but so many of them sound great.  I therefore decided to mention a few of the ones that I was hearing for the first time and like a lot -  'The Holly And The Ivy' - Annie Lennox, 'The Little Road To Bethlehem' - Hayley Westenra and 'Christmas In The Country' - Sara Storer with Shane Howard.

       Many of my favourite traditional carols were also on the CDs - 'Joy To The World,' 'Hark, The Herald Angels Sing,' 'The First Noel,''Little Drummer Boy,' 'I Wish You A Merry Christmas,' 'Oh Holy Night' 'Silent Night 'and 'Jingle Bells.'

Christmas Draws Near - Creative Monday Blog Hop

     
      Can you believe that we are actually in the month of December?!  The days are moving so quickly. Before we know it Christmas will be here. My twin and I enjoyed decorating our home at Christmas and also taking pictures beside the decorations.  I decided that I would  make a Christmas collage of some of these pictures and use it for my header during this month. 
      Christmas decorations certainly help to lift one's spirit and I am glad that I have been able to decorate our home after the loss of my twin and again after my brother Sutcliffe died during the Christmas season of 2011. There was a time when I felt that decorating was a thing of the past for me.  
      I look forward to decorating a special memory table for my departed loved ones again this year.  I am usually a bit late with the decorating but for sure it will be done. How is your decorating coming along?

How Cool Is That?! - Creative Monday Blog Hop

      I have always admired the awesome creations from my namesake Judy who has a blog titled Judy's Handmade Creations  so I was thrilled to be the lucky winner of her angel cards and bracelets giveaway. When they arrived in time for my birthday, November 4, I had to exclaim "How cool is that?!"
       Whenever I see the figure of an angel it has a comforting effect on me and what better day to use these  items to decorate a small table but on my birthday. The decorations included a pretty cloth,  picture of my twin and me, the angel cards and bracelets that I won, a special necklace with an angel pendant and a small red candle in a flower candle holder. I lit the candle for a short while. Below are pictures of the items I won and the decorated table.

Rainbow Birthday Thoughts - Creative Monday Blog Hop

     November 4 marks another birthday for me and again as a twinless twin.  I use the day to reflect and remember good times as I know that my twin sister Janine would want me to be happy. It is not easy but I thank God that I can celebrate with my family. 
    Things keep happening to lift my spirit when I face the difficult months of each year.  Recently I saw an awesome rainbow. I had not seen one in many years. It was so huge that I stood in awe. I got some shots but my camera was not able to do it justice.  Amazingly as my family and I stood looking at it my mom recited this verse from a hymn that she used to sing in high school over 76 years ago:
                                    "O Joy that seekest me through pain,
                                     I cannot close my heart to thee;
                                     I trace the rainbow through the rain,
                                    And feel the promise is not vain,
                                    That morn shall tearless be."

   I hope I get to see a rainbow soon again. In the meantime I will treasure these shots and be comforted by the wonderful words of the hymn.

Our Treasured Plates - Creative Monday Blog Hop

   Some weeks ago I shared the special decorative cups that my family and I have had for many years. This week I am sharing the special plates that my twin sister and I have treasured over the years and used to decorate our home.

    This was a gift that my twin sister received which featured the Chinese zodiac signs. As you can see it came in the year of the rabbit.

 Being bird enthusiasts we were thrilled to receive these small plates featuring colourful birds.

  We are in autumn so this lovely little plate featuring autumn scenes is perfect to be on display at this time.

   We have always had an insatiable curiosity about the flora of countries around the world so we were happy to get this souvenir from our Australian cousin Christine.

A Wonderful Coincidence!

       

    I started this week with another anniversary of my twin sister Janine's death weighing heavily on my mind.  I was not even sleeping well and got up very early on Monday morning.  I headed straight to the internet to check my Yahoo Mail and immediately my eyes caught an email from someone with the name Janine!  It was from Janine Huldie who has a wonderful blog titled Janine's Confessions Of A Mommyaholic. She brought the good news that I had won her blogiversary giveaway! As you can well imagine I was thrilled.  I think this was such a wonderful coincidence. Thanks again to Janine for giving me this opportunity. I am glad that through blogging I have had the privilege of meeting a lovely person who has my twin sister's first name. Do go over and visit her blog.

Special Memories Of My Twin - Wordless Wednesday Linky

    It is not easy to be wordless this week. My friend Eleanor who attended Preparatory school and the final years of high school with my twin and  I sent me this message in an email and it has certainly lifted my spirit:-
" Our precious Lord, Who is keeping Janine safe and secure in Paradise until we eventually join her there, and Who will never stop comforting you, Mrs. Haughton-James and Richard, is the same God Who gave me the privilege of knowing Janine Petite Haughton-James: whenever I think of her (and of you), the words "pure-hearted", "sincere", "genuine", "kind", "gentle", "lady-like", " diligent'", "practical" and "efficient" come to mind."
